It's always there,
whether it shows or not.
It makes us human,
and is perfectly normal.
People say hate is a strong word,
but sometimes it is necessary.
Hate can be slight,
or severely strong.
It bubbles inside you,
and occasionally boils over.
Sometimes toward things,
sometimes toward people,
and even sometimes toward yourself.
Hate can be mutual,
or single sided.
No one knows where this feeling comes from,
or if it feels the same to everyone,
but everyone knows their personal reactions.
Hate can be wanted,
unwanted,
or even regretted.
I'm not quite sure how all this fits into one word but it does.
It's always there,
whether it shows or not.
It makes us human,
and is perfectly normal.

Not only does all this fit into one word but oddly enough, it fits into two. Although they are total opposites the lines of love and hate do overlap. And though we may wish otherwise the two are much closer than we'd like to believe.
Interesting idea...the connection between these two very strong emotions is something that is a consistent aspect of literature and poetry...it seems that the same powerful emotion that can make you LOVE someone/something has the same power to make you HATE...it is a mixed blessing I guess.
ReplyDeleteThey do say that there are only two emotions: love and hate. So, this poem is extremely fitting. The two emotions are both very passionate, and I suppose you could say they come from the same place. I like how you showed that comparison here.
ReplyDeleteWe've been taught sense we were little that love and hate were oppisites. Yet, one can't exist without the other. Then, they also say the more extreme and opposite they become from each other the closer they become. I love this poem because it explains perfectly that opposite doesnt always mean what we think it is.
